Information about Binstead Binsted Binsteed family genealogy

From 1965 until 2006 my hobby was a one name study of the genealogy of the names Binstead, Binsted and Binsteed.  For the sake of simplicity the spelling Binstead is used as a default throughout the site and, except where the context indicates otherwise,  includes the alternatives.

My database contained almost 3,500 Binsteads and included:

• all births, marriages and deaths in England and Wales from 1837 to 1999

• many Binstead baptisms, marriages and burials from parish registers, mainly in Hampshire, Sussex, Surrey and London

• many Binsteads born in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Hong Kong and other countries

• a complete set of Binstead wills from the Hampshire and Sussex Records Offices and the Prerogative Court of Canterbury

• various feet of fines and other documents relating to property belonging to Binsteads as well as other miscellaneous documents.

At the end of 2006, just over 80% of the Binsteads on my database were fully traced and the remainder partly traced.  Exactly 57% of all Binsteads belong to only seven separate trees while the remainder are to be found on 223 trees ranging in size from large to fragmentary.

My research was not commercial and I used to share my information with those who were willing to share theirs with me.  For reasons explained elsewhere it is now private - hence the absence of contact particulars.  I keep the site up as it contains general information which may be of interest or use to genuine researchers but will not respond to enquiries.
